SUNSET IN THE SOUL

Teaching by Mary, the Mistress of all souls

The Heavenly Queen sets great store by praying to support tormented souls, and by making sacrifices with the same objective. The reason for this lies in the fact that creation as a whole is a network in which all elements (every human soul, every animal, even every element of the natural environment) are interconnected, and that therefore, with a view to the best possible functioning and flourishing of the whole, every element must be given the opportunity to realize its optimal development. All this with the intention that every element of the network might be able to make its maximum contribution to the accomplishment of the Plans of Love that God harbors for His entire creation. One element can assist another in this.

The Holy Virgin points out to souls that they are not only tormented and hampered by external influences, but in many cases also undermine themselves through their own inner states. There are dispositions of heart through which a human soul, in a manner of speaking, 'attracts darkness', holds much darkness within herself, and consequently reacts with darkness to many situations in her life, particularly to situations she perceives as unpleasant or that make her feel insecure.

Three of the most important ways by which human hearts are darkened from within and thereby become great obstacles to the blossoming of the souls concerned as instruments through which God wishes to realize His Plan of Salvation and unlock the fruits of the Redemptive works of Jesus Christ in human souls, are mentioned in prayer flower 1784 as follows:

"For the benefit of ….. (name of a fellow human being) I implore Your most powerful intervention for him/her to obtain true peace of heart, sincere self-knowledge and total and final liberation from any inclination to engage in negative speech, negative thinking and negative feeling".

Numerous are the human souls who experience little or no peace in their hearts. In a private Revelation the Mistress of all souls gave to Myriam in September 2017, She defined peace of heart as "the effect of an uninhibited and pure overflow from God’s Heart into the soul, because this soul has voluntarily and spontaneously freed herself from dark inclinations to such a degree that the flow of Divine Life is enabled to enter into her unhindered".

In June 2006, the Mistress had already defined peace of heart as a state of "total resignation to God’s decrees," a state of "freedom from all unrest, resentment, bitterness, envy, jealousy, hatred, suspicion, and any movements in emotional life by which a heart obstructs the flow of True Love". Therefore, true peace of heart is the inner state that arises when the soul spontaneously feels herself being in harmony with God’s Law and feels that she is oriented toward God’s Heart to such an extent that all her dispositions and her entire conduct are fully at the service of the accomplishment of God’s Works and can at all times be deployed by God within the framework of His Works in the most effective manner.

True peace of heart, therefore, has everything to do with the extent to which a soul (usually unconsciously) feels that, in all her actions and in everything that emanates from her, she is collaborating completely with God and fulfilling her calling as an instrument through which God seeks to accomplish His Works – for this is the only true mission in life of every human soul on earth – in a manner that can be approved by God and that actually yields positive fruits in creation. When the Holy Virgin says that true peace of heart usually takes root in a soul unconsciously (and therefore spontaneously), She means by this that a soul can also consciously imagine that she is in a state of inner Peace, without this actually being the case. This occurs in souls that do not truly know themselves. This state is not without risk for the soul, for a soul that sees herself differently than she really is, is easily manipulated by the darkness.

When a soul loses true peace of heart she falls into a state that causes her to react negatively to the most various situations, for example, to unsatisfied needs and desires. Discontent takes root in a heart to the extent that the soul is not in harmony with God’s Law, and her inner states and conduct do not serve God’s Works. Discontent in a heart is therefore an unmistakable sign that the Holy Spirit is incessantly working to activate the soul’s conscience in order that she may spontaneously and actively recognize and become aware of her deviation from God’s Law, in an attempt to lead the soul herself back to a greater state of grace, and to help purify creation as a whole of any darkness that leads her away from the balance provided for by God.

A soul in a state of inner discontent is therefore a soul in which a struggle is taking place, which sometimes rages uninterruptedly, in other cases is merely slumbering now and then in a wave pattern, only to suddenly become acutely palpable again. These acute outbursts are then characterized by a generally dark radiance of the soul, a surly or unfriendly attitude towards fellow creatures, a manner of speaking and reacting denoting the fact that the soul feels constricted or discontented (even if she is sometimes even unable to express why), and a pronounced inclination to first see the 'bad' in everything (i.e.: that which this soul herself considers to be 'bad' or 'negative') and to first expect 'bad' outcomes or events. A soul in a state of discontent of heart experiences many things and situations, and even fellow creatures, as a burden, sometimes even as sources of annoyance. She lacks Light in the heart, so that many things and situations, as well as the future, are perceived by her as dark, colorless, and devoid of all joy.

What easily keeps a soul lacking true peace in her heart in this disposition is the fact that she is often barely aware of the true state of her heart and how she comes across with those around her. Therefore, the Heavenly Mistress motivates the praying soul to implore Her that the tormented soul for whom she is praying migh obtain sincere self-knowledge.

Souls whose hearts are often immersed in dark states that make them fall prey to feelings of general discontent do not easily discover their own share in their condition, and almost automatically view fellow creatures as culprits for situations and events they find it difficult to cope with, and as sources of their 'unhappiness'. They barely know themselves, if at all. Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit never ceases for a single moment to endeavor to unlock the soul in such a way that she may learn to see herself as she truly is, this also means: learn to see herself as God Himself sees her. This ability is of the greatest importance, for a soul’s inability to see herself as she truly is does not count before the infallible Divine Judge as an excuse or justification for her clinging to discontent in the heart. In this respect the Heavenly Queen says that, under certain circumstances (whether occasionally or frequently), these souls "produce the effect of a dark cloud that slides between their fellow creatures and the Light of the Sun from God’s Heart".

Why is the Heavenly Mistress explicitly speaking of "sincere self-knowledge"? Because souls can fall prey to the inclination to vindicate themselves, their behavior and their dispositions, and/or to perceive them in such a way that they themselves bear no blame whatsoever and are merely victims of circumstances beyond their control, caused by situations and fellow creatures that 'automatically' lead them to their darkened state and behavior. A lack of sincere self-knowledge has consequences for the soul that can increasingly reinforce her darkened state of mind:

A soul that does not exactly know and fathom herself as she truly is, with all her weaknesses, susceptibility to temptations, shortcomings and capacities for a complete development as a soul, cannot be useful or fruitful in the struggle against the darkness. The struggle against any darkness outside herself is pointless and useless if the soul has not in the first place recognized her own darkness and brought it under control.

Years ago already, the Mistress of all souls urged souls to perform a thorough self-analysis at least once in their lives. The purpose of this analysis is for the soul to gain insight into the ways in which the darkness has already been able to manipulate her, and into the reasons why this was possible. In other words, the soul follows a line of reasoning along these lines: "I have done this and that wrong, and this was possible because I possess such and such a weakness, which makes me susceptible to this or that form of manipulation by the darkness". Such a self-analysis is nothing other than a golden path to sincere self-knowledge. The soul that performs this analysis in all honesty toward herself can, based on her findings, make a sincere, deep confession pertaining to her entire life, which can purify her to a great extent and help render negative states in her heart inactive. Such a confession of a lifetime, however, is of true use only to the extent that the soul sincerely resolves to resist her weaknesses and temptations with determination, and sincerely realizes that through these weaknesses and temptations she may have caused suffering and/or harm to fellow creatures and has thereby violated God’s Basic Law of True Love (not seldom frequently and for a long time).

The Mistress of all souls emphasizes that such a journey to self-discovery must not rely merely on intellectual reasoning and reflection on oneself, but must lead to a rebirth in the heart, in other words, to a thorough transformation of the heart’s disposition from negative to positive, from dark or dim to luminous, from coldness to warmth. In this regard She says: "As soon as the soul succeeds in utilizing the knowledge she acquires about her own nature, her own inclinations and habits for the development of a new emotional life and a life goal directed solely at the fulfillment of God’s Plans, the chains of her slavery to her own self-image can be broken". The soul in a state of discontent in the heart and lack of sincere self-knowledge easily regards herself as a victim of circumstances outside herself. In doing so, she believes in a dark inspiration that will hinder her from blossoming, and becomes, as it were, a slave to a representation that is often completely unfounded or at least partly does not reflect the full truth. Thus many souls are hindered from fully serving the Works of God, and from attaining, despite the trials of life, a degree of happiness that enables them to combat, with Light and warmth, every attempt by the darkness to make them inclined to hold on to their discontent.

Therefore, the following statement once made by the Holy Virgin Mary is very significant: "Only to the extent that a soul determines that she has specific shortcomings and dark sides, honestly and sincerely admits this determination to herself, and radically changes direction in the dispositions of her heart, will she find the key to being truly reborn for a life in the one and only True Light". This life in the one and only True Light can already be felt here on earth as a state of spontaneous brightfulness, unwavering hope, and happiness even under difficult circumstances, for feelings of happiness express the fact that the soul takes her trials less to heart because deep down in her heart she 'knows' that everything will be alright because God (the True Light) is allowed to reign in her life – indeed, 'is allowed' to reign, for the soul must voluntarily offer God the opportunity to govern her life. God fully respects human free will, imposes nothing, and therefore leaves every human soul the free choice as to her actions and in everything she wishes to pursue or, conversely, to avoid.

In prayer flower 1784, the Heavenly Mistress has the praying soul implore Her for the mediation of the grace of a total and definitive liberation from every inclination to speak negatively, think negatively and feel negatively. A soul that has little peace in her heart and does not truly know herself as she really is and as she really comes across with her fellow creatures is essentially negatively disposed and is therefore usually characterized by a great propensity to speak, think, feel and aspire negatively. This means that everything that goes on within her and emanates from her will be permeated with darkness, through which she can discourage her fellow creatures, rob them of any zest for life and vitality, approach and view her entire world negatively, expect bad rather than good developments and events, easily think and feel bad in relation to her fellow creatures, will easily be tempted in many circumstances to slander, gossip, or cast suspicion on fellow human beings, and so on.

A soul that approaches all circumstances, situations and contacts in her life negatively does not contribute to the accomplishment and unfolding of God’s Works in the world. God aspires uninterruptedly for an ever-more powerful flow of Light and Love among all creatures. The human soul can only collaborate towards this fruitfully to the extent that her heart, her thoughts, her expectations and her attitude toward everything that happens in her life are filled with Light and Love. Specifically, this means that she must endeavor to live the Law of True Love sincerely and spontaneously on every meter of her journey through life. To fully understand what this means, the Mistress of all souls refers to Her extensive definition of 'True Love,' which She already inspired in September 2013 in Her teaching entitled True Love.

It is indeed remarkable that the Queen of Heaven and earth refers to a connection between discontent in the heart on the one hand and a deficient experience of God’s Basic Law of True Love on the other. A soul in whom all components of True Love, as set out in Her 2013 definition, are spontaneously experienced and applied in depth, will generally experience a high degree of peace in her heart, sincerely see herself as she truly is towards her fellow creatures, and desire to see only the positive side in everything. This means that she will continue to search for points of light even in seemingly darkened situations, that she will look for good points and traits that she can emphasize in every fellow creature in order that the Light in every creature may get the opportunity to blossom, and that she even feels bad or sad when she catches herself with a sudden inclination to say, feel or think anything negative about a fellow creature. Indeed, in proportion as a soul experiences true peace of heart she is spontaneously imbued with the awareness that everything ultimately originates with God and that only human interference inspired by the darkness can cause situations, events and creatures to deviate from God’s intentions. Based on this awareness, the soul cannot maintain her inner balance when she has herself fallen prey to temptations to any negativity in actions, speech, feelings or thoughts.

The Mother of God therefore teaches the immeasurably great importance of a spontaneous experience of true Peace in the heart, because this experience constitutes an essential condition for making a human soul a valuable junction in the flow of God’s Love through creation. Any lack of true peace of heart creates an obstacle in this flow, comparable to the effect of a cloud moving in front of the radiant sun.

Every human soul is called to be a mirror image of her God towards the entire creation, an image and likeness of the Divine Creator. God is like the sun to the entire creation. By virtue of the aforementioned calling, no human soul must be like a cloud that blocks God’s Light and the warmth of His Love or prevent the latter from fully unfolding their effects in creation. For this reason, the Mistress of all souls demonstrates how important it is that human souls should support one another in experiencing true peace of heart. A soul can never live in the image and likeness of God as long as she allows discontent to remain alive in her heart.

To recognize whether, and when, any form of discontent is beginning to defile inner life, the soul must sincerely desire to be able to see herself at any moment as she truly is, meaning: as her fellow creatures experience her presence and as God Himself sees and experiences her. The Holy Virgin points out that every lack of peace of heart and any expression of this lack in the form of negativity in actions, speech, feelings, ways of thinking and expectations stands in the way of the fulfillment of the soul’s mission during her one and only life on earth, and can therefore determine for the soul whether she will experience an Eternal Life in the Bliss of Heaven or not (or only after a very long period of purification on account of her having frequently violated the Law of True Love).

The Mistress of all souls has never ceased to emphasize how fruitful it can be for souls when they endeavor to imitate Her – the Immaculate and eternally sinless Mother of God – in everything, in all Her states of heart. She does not do this by way of self-exaltation, nor to make Herself the ultimate endpoint of the human soul’s aspirations. Her aim has always been to lead souls in the most fruitful way possible into the Heart of Jesus Christ as the Embodiment of Divine Life and of the practical application of the Divine Basic Law of True Love in every human life. Through Her Science of Divine Life – the totality of all teachings, letters of reply and prayers inspired by Her – She has abundantly demonstrated how identical Her own inner states are with those of Christ, because God has fully absorbed Her into the Mystery of the United Hearts of Jesus and Mary. This unity of Heart with Christ makes Her a perfect mirror of the Heart of Christ and a perfect realization of the calling of every human soul: to live in the image and likeness of her God.

It is precisely this perfect realization that makes Mary 'full of Grace'. For this reason, in prayer flower 1784 it is implored that the soul for whom one prays may henceforth stand completely under the care and protection of the Heavenly Queen, in order that she may not relapse into any inclination toward the darkening of her heart. A soul that orients her heart completely toward the Holy Virgin thereby opens herself fully to an influx of the luminous states of heart of the most perfect of all created human souls that have ever lived on earth. Prayer for the purification of a fellow human being’s heart can only achieve a lasting result to the extent that one simultaneously entrusts this fellow human being to an intense guidance by the Queen of Heaven and earth. To the extent that the fellow human being in question also spontaneously and voluntarily accepts this transfer, the latter will turn into an actual consecration. Precisely the total consecration to Mary, which is applied in all situations of daily life, constitutes the golden path to a complete fulfillment of the mission and calling with which God sends every soul into the world: to lead a life as a reliable and fruitful instrument for the unlocking of the effects of the Works that God wishes to accomplish in His creation.
